Canberra needs more trees. Our city is currently losing 3,000 trees annually, but last financial year the ACT Government planted only 1,450 replacements. As a result of this neglect, Canberra actually lost 10.9 per cent of its tree canopy cover between 2009 and 2016 – one of the worst outcomes in all of Australia.

We need to stop and then reverse this decline. A healthy tree canopy significantly cools our neighbourhoods, shelters our homes and beautifies our streets.

In its most recent budget, the ACT Government made a four-year commitment to plant at least 17, 000 more urban trees in Canberra. If you know where some of these trees should go, please let me know, and I will ask the government to consider your suggestion. Just click here to share your feedback.
